I am responding to the article in the Nov. 30 paper (“Concerns about yard waste site”).

Are we living in an oligarchy?

As a resident of Chaska and a parent of two teenage children, I would like to see my city raise the tobacco sales age to 21 and with that get tobacco out of high school environments.

California Proposition 13 decreased property taxes by assessing property values at their 1975 value and restricted annual increases of assessed value of real property to an inflation factor, not to exceed 2 percent per year.

We, the leaders of the Minnesota Conservative Energy Forum, have begun to take an interest in some of the arguments being made regarding solar energy permitting, a frequent debate in Carver County. In addition, we (the undersigned) also hold public office and can understand the quandary posed by applicants for new and disruptive uses of land. We can appreciate the need for thorough debate, but what we should not tolerate are poor and irrelevant arguments that deprive property owners of the use and enjoyment of their property.

On Dec. 6 we celebrated the feast of St. Nicholas — Sant Nikolas in German or Sinterklaas in Dutch.

Once 4-3 on the season, Holy Family Catholic/Waconia has doubled the win total since, all four victories against Wright County Conference opponents, including a 6-0 win at home over Orono Dec. 14.

Coach Dana Kallman recently recorded win No. 200 in his career, a victory over Eagan Dec. 8.

Chaska/Chanhassen started the dual portion of the 2017-18 season with a pair of dominating wins, topping Robbinsdale Armstrong 54-6 and Edina 64-9 on Dec. 14 at Chaska High School.

Ask Sophie Jones who’s coming to see her play Tiny Tim in the Guthrie Theater’s “A Christmas Carol” and she’ll recite a long list that includes family, friends and all of her teachers at Jonathan Elementary School.

Four Minnesota cities — Plymouth, Bloomington, St. Louis Park and Edina — set their tobacco sale age at 21 this year in an attempt to decrease the number of addicted people in their communities.

Easy-going Riley and siblings were found and cared for by Cat Tales Rescue. Born in May 2017, this kitten-active girl will meet you at the door, ankle rub, follow you, jump into your lap and stay for short periods of time. Riley is friendly, affectionate, and purrs on contact for her trusted people. She prefers not to be carried around. She is fine with dogs, most cats, and should be OK with kind kids. Riley would do best with a buddy.

Nothing against Barbie, but the McCloskey sisters of Chaska were all about their American Girl dolls.

It seems like there is always a need this time of year for some last-minute gift ideas. Books are a great option.

The Nordic Club hosted its annual St. Lucia event Dec. 8 at Waterbrooke Fellowship Church, Victoria. This year Linnea Bosta of Wacona was selected to be St. Lucia at the club’s program.
