Local Newspapers
This website was launched in 2010 with the aim of increasing the availability of local information on the internet. Over the past 14 years, it has gathered news from local sources and has notably been the publisher of the “Villager Tower” newsletter by Ricki Schultz, as well as “Historic Carver on the Minnesota River”, a book by John von Walter.
The three of us are united in a simple desire to publish information, historical or current. My personal interest is in historical preservation – a real problem in the digital age.
With the news of Southwest News Media shutting down, it appears we are at risk of losing our local newspapers. I will be taking action to personally preserve digital content from swnewsmedia.com to reduce the risk of the digital content being lost forever.
The role that Carver Current has to play going forward is not clear to me. It has always been less engaging than platforms such as Facebook and Nextdoor, where I believe most people get their local news.
I plan to continue hosting local content on this site. If you share our goals of publishing and preserving local information on the internet and would like to contribute in some way, please reach out.
