iling for City Council Seats – The terms of Councilmembers Joy McKnight and Kristy Mock will expire at the end of 2020. Candidate filings for these positions will be accepted at City Hall (316 Broadway) from Tuesday, July 28, 2020, through Tuesday, August 11, 2020. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the exception of Tuesday, August 11, 2020, when City Hall will be open until 5:00 p.m. If you are not bringing your own affidavit of candidate filing form that is already notarized, please call ahead to make sure a notary is available. The filing is not valid unless the form is notarized and the $2.00 filing fee is paid.

COVID-19 Precautions – The City of Carver will be taking extra safety precautions in the precinct due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These precautions will cause longer than normal wait times for voters, so we ask you to plan accordingly and to be patient.
• Per State regulations, masks are required. Extra masks will be available at the precinct.
• The Primary Election in Minnesota means you vote for only one party. For a sample of the ballot for the Primary Election, see 2020 Primary Ballot.
• Entry and exits will be different. You will enter the polls through the front doors at City Hall, 316 Broadway, but will not exit through the same doors. The number of voters in the building will be limited to allow for social distancing and to meet sanitizing requirements. Please plan to wait in line outside.
• If you need to register to vote on Election Day, you will need to bring documentation of your residency. For the list of acceptable documents, see Documentation.
• Individual pens will be available that you will use throughout the process and take home with you. Hand sanitizer will be available as you enter and leave the precinct.

As part of the Water Treatment Facility Expansion Project, soil borings will be taking place July 27-July 31, 2020. Crews will use a drill to dig about 20 feet deep into the ground to collect soil samples from key locations on the facility property (1765 Mount Hope Road), as well as along Spring Creek Drive. These samples will help the project team understand the soil profile of the area before construction begins in the late fall of this year. This will not impact street access.

Fill out your absentee ballot application on-line at: State of MN or have it mailed or faxed to you by calling the Carver County Elections & Licensing Department at 952-361-1910. Absentee ballot applications can be returned by mail, fax, or e-mail. For more details, see Carver County Elections
Apply early so you can mail back or deliver your absentee ballot before Election Day. You are not allowed to drop off your ballot at your precinct or the Carver County Government Center on Election Day. If you are in Carver County on Election Day you need to go to your polling place to cast your ballot. Plan ahead: Your absentee ballot must be received through the mail at Carver County by last mail delivery on Election Day. You can return your application by fax, but not your ballot.

The City of Carver is planning on expanding the current water treatment facility beginning late this fall. Many times we are over watering our lawns. The City of Carver allows watering on every even or odd-numbered day of the month, but that does not mean your grass or gardens need water every other day. The rule of thumb is that grass needs 1” of water a week and that can come from rain or a hose.
Cities supply three-times as much water to residents and businesses in the summer, as compared to winter. This can stress groundwater supplies and infrastructure as the additional water for irrigation requires city water departments to pump more water, treat more water, and pipe it to homes.
