Please note the correct polling place for City of Carver residents beginning with the March 3, 2020, Presidential Nomination Primary is:

City Council Says No to Franchise Fees

Following several months of discussion, along with two resident listening sessions, the City Council voted unanimously to rule out franchise fees as a funding source for future street maintenance.  As a part of the strategic plan, the City Council identified an initiative to study the use of franchise fees as a potential source of funding for the City’s Street Maintenance Program.  Franchise fees are a method of collecting funds from utility companies who use the City right-of-way.

The City Council will continue to review project scheduling, future state aid, management of budget, property taxes, and other alternatives to successfully complete future street maintenance projects in the City.  The City Council will move forward with franchise agreements, with no fees, with cable television providers in Carver.  Comcast and Jaguar Communications need franchise agreements, no fees will be included, in order to fulfill a telecommunications requirement with the State of Minnesota.

Emergency Response Program Decals Available

The Carver County Sheriff’s Office has started a new “Emergency Response Decals Program.” The reason behind the program is to assist deputies responding for certain calls for service. These decals will help deputies in knowing who they could possibly be dealing with in an emergency, and to assist them with the correct treatment or care. Deputies will be able to pass along useful information obtained from the decals to responding paramedics and county fire departments. This is a county-wide program and a great way to promote positive community relations by visiting with these individuals and families.

You can pick up these decals at Carver City Hall, 316 Broadway, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

A Salty Scenario

“Over 75% of salt applied in the Twin Cities during winter ends up in lakes, wetlands or groundwater. If salt is lying on dry pavement, it’s not doing any work. Now is the perfect time to make sure any extra salt lying around is cleaned up. Check your walkways and sweep up extra salt before it gets tracked, washed, or blown into waters. Public Services Need Your Help!

REMINDER: WINTER PARKING RESTRICTIONS
Snow and ice removal on our city’s streets are time-consuming. On-street parking is not compatible with safe and efficient snowplowing operations. Vehicles left parked on the street create problems for snowplows as well as safety problems with packed snow and ice accumulation around the vehicle. To perform the best job in the quickest amount of time, we need the cooperation and assistance of our citizens.

“No Parking” will be enforced after two inches or more snow has accumulated on any public street or alley until the city has plowed the public street or alley curb to curb (Ordinance Sec.46-80).

Vehicles parked in violation of these rules shall be tagged and subject to towing, at the owner’s expense.

Our Phone System is Currently Down

We are currently experiencing technical issues with our phone system and unable to answer any calls.  We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and apologize for the inconvenience.
