City of Carver Hires Building Official

The City of Carver is excited to announce Jessica Archer as the City’s Building Official.  Archer joined City Staff on August 26, 2019.

Archer has worked in building and construction since 2005 and has held the position of Building Official in the cities of Minnestrista and Chanhassen.  Archer has extensive experience in both commercial and residential plan review, inspections and mentoring of fresh inspectors in the field.

A native of Buffalo, Archer holds a technical degree from Anoka Technical College in Architectural Design and Drafting, a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management and a Master of Business with a focus on workplace conflict.

“Jessica brings a depth of knowledge and technical skill to our team.  Beyond her technical work in plan review and inspections, she brings a level of customer service and interpersonal skills that we are fortunate to have.  I am excited to see the improvements she makes to our processes and the relationships she will build with local contractors and residents in Carver.  Jessica already feels like she has been part of the team for a long time and we feel really lucky she chose to join our team”, said Erin Smith, Community Development Director with the City of Carver.

Archer will be active on both commercial and residential job sites beginning this fall.

New Rental Space Now Available

The City of Carver will offer rental space in the new City Hall, which is located at 316 Broadway in Carver’s historic downtown area.  This space will offer an ideal location for community events, business meetings, parties, small weddings, and so on.  This facility includes Village Hall, which is a community space with a commercial kitchen and patio area, and the Broadway Conference Room.  In addition, the City has a historic church, Church-by-the-River, located at 109 Main Street East, which will also be available for rentals for smaller events.  More information is located on the City’s website (cityofcarver.com) at: Facility Rentals

Paving, Concrete Pouring, and Other Activities Continue for the 2019 Street and Utility Improvements Project

Kirche Hill and Diedrich Drive Construction
Due to scheduling and weather changes, Kirche Hill will be paved prior to Diedrich Drive. Paving on Diedrich Drive is scheduled to occur by the end of this week. Private utility contractors will be allowed access for utility connections beginning Tuesday, September 3rd.

Sunny Ridge Drive Construction
Major construction activities on Sunny Ridge Drive are anticipated to resume the week of August 26th.

Elm Drive Construction
Concrete is tentatively scheduled to be poured on Elm Drive by the end of next week, weather dependent.

Traffic Alerts
Sunny Ridge Drive residents may park vehicles in the Community Park Parking Lot during construction.

Sunny Ridge Drive Construction – Restricted Access to Driveways Starting August 26

Sunny Ridge Drive Construction
Major construction activities on Sunny Ridge Drive are anticipated to resume the week of August 26.  Please have your vehicles parked on side streets prior to 7AM on Monday, August 26.  While the concrete is hardening, there will be no access to your driveway.  Access is anticipated to be restored after the concrete has hardened, which typically takes 5-7 days.

Construction Details
Crews will be grading the sidewalk subgrade and preparing the street surface for paving this week in the Kirche Hill/Diedrich Drive neighborhood. It is anticipated that crews will begin grading for the Spring Creek Trail at the end of the week.

Traffic Alerts
Spring Creek Trail work will require the closure of the road shoulder, however, 2-way traffic will be maintained.

Do you live in a watershed?  The answer for everyone is YES. Everyone lives in a watershed.
A watershed is an area of land that drains to a common body of water. When it rains, rain water flows downhill until it joins the nearest lake, stream or wetland. Which way the water flows is determined by the landscape, hills and valleys. These features make up watersheds, their size, shapes and boundaries.
