A ‘FYI’ ANNOUNCEMENT

Was asked by resident to get the word out. There was going to be a special 20/20 edition report on ABC that was supposed to air on Friday, October 28th but had to be rescheduled for November 11th instead.

So what’s the big deal you ask. Well, several, the person who spread the word feels bad that the program was rescheduled and has not a way to tell everyone now. Secondly, the segment involves a local resident that is newsworthy. Remember or recall the murder of Earl Olander from East Union? He was a member of the East Union Church too. The ABC World News 20/20 program interviewed with family, residents, church members about Earl and I’m sure there is other historical value to the heritage as well. Personally, I am familiar with Olander’s contribution to the community having written the history book for the threshers’ in Jordan. Thirdly, little old Carver on World News is a big deal. So for everyone who didn’t know about the presentation, can watch or have a head’s up that one of our own will be featured on November 11th, the rescheduled night to air the segment involving Earl Olander instead of previous scheduled time of October 28th .

Carlson’s Lovable Llamas, Food Truck and Bazaar at Trinity in Carver

Elizabeth Jander, local high school senior, PSEO student at Crown College and participant in the 4-H Llama project is working with her church, Trinity Lutheran Church in Carver, to provide a hands-on llama experience over Steamboat Days weekend. She recently volunteered at the Canterbury Race Track Llama Races and saw how much joy a little time with the llamas brought to families. Since Trinity has held a popular annual bazaar over Steamboat Days, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to pour a little llama love into Carver.

Carlson’s Lovable Llama’s will be on the lower lot at Trinity on Saturday, September 11 from 10:00 a.m – 2:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome to this free event.

The bazaar will be held on:  Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. & Sunday, September 12, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Baked goods, canned goods, garden produce, plants, embroidered and sewed items, crafts, antiques, gifts, gently used books and household items will be offered.

A food truck will be parked in our lower lot. They will serve corn dogs, mini doughnuts, cheese curds, water, and cotton candy.

New Pastor at Crown of Glory Lutheran Church

December 7 and 8th, the Reverend Laura Laughlin will be officially installed as the new Associate Pastor of Faith Formation at Crown of Glory Lutheran Church, 1141 Cardinal Street, Chaska, MN. The installation ceremonies will be performed at the Saturday, December 7th 5:00pm service and at the two Sunday, December 8th, 9:00 and 10:30am services. The installation will be officiated by the Reverend Craig Pederson, the Assistant to the Bishop of the Minneapolis Area Synod of the ELCA. Pastor Laura will join the staff which is led by Senior Pastor Reggie Klindworth who has served at Crown of Glory for 12 years. Crown of Glory recently completed a major expansion of the church, and last year celebrated their 50th year serving Chaska and the surrounding area.

Pastor Laura’s education includes a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and English (2012) from Wartburg College, Waverly, IA and Masters of Divinity from Luther Seminary, St. Paul, MN (2016). Pastor Laura began her ministry at Norman-Davenport Lutheran Parish, North Dakota (2016-2019).

Crown of Glory’s Call Committee was comprised of a nine-member, cross-generational team who spent a year seeking the perfect candidate for Crown of Glory. At a special congregational meeting on Sunday, August 4, the Crown of Glory congregation unanimously voted to call Pastor Laura Laughlin to fill the Associate Pastor’s role at the Church. The primary areas Pastor Laura will focus on include intergenerational ministries, adult education, and milestone ministries.

“God is certainly up to new and wonderful things at Crown of Glory, and I am both humbled and excited to be part of this vibrant and active church. I look forward to discovering more of God’s creation in this growing community,” states Pastor Laura. She proudly proclaims she is a “PK2” (both parents are pastors). Interactive Germanic History Presentation

They came from all over the Germanic world to find a better life in Chaska and Carver County.

On Saturday, October 21, at 10:30 in the Chaska library Jim Hammers will lead an interactive presentation of the varied Germanic backgrounds of Chaska’s citizenry.

He will lead those attending through a reflection of how our individual family histories were both affected by history but also we made history through of our participation in it.  With the help of a handout each participant will develop an outline of pertinent events as they might pertain to their  personal histories and  to invite them to fill in the blanks through further study.

Mr. Hammers leads this discussion from a background of teaching German culture and language for over 40 years and from his personal family history as a descendant from the Dutch province of Limburg from which over 100 families immigrated to Chaska and Carver County.  For more information Mr. Hammers can be reached at [email protected].
