An overtime victory at West Lutheran Dec. 22 moved Southwest Christian boys basketball above .500 with a 4-3 record, a 58-56 decision.

In rebuttal to my Dec. 7 letter “What is the bar for us?” regarding U.S. Sen. Al Franken, Gail Fischer wrote asking a great question, and made some comments that I would like to address (“How about Moore and Trump,” Dec. 14).

It should be obvious, but obviously it’s not.

Over the past few years we have read and viewed stories about harassment and rape, especially on college campuses. Not to be outdone, racists and white supremacists leave graffiti on college dorm walls, churches and battle ships. This is very frightening. It makes a person very mad, especially when the cops finish their investigation.

People throw away 25 percent more stuff during the holiday season. Gifts and gift wrapping impact our water and natural resources, with many pieces of plastic and trash ending up in our soils and our waters.

Fourth at state in the 100-yard backstroke as a freshman, Joshua Wuflestad had his sights on moving up the Class A podium for Chaska. Potentially winning a title.

The Chaska Police Department held its third annual Heroes and Helpers on Saturday, Dec. 9 at SuperTarget in Chaska.

I want to take a bit of time and simply focus on this special time of the year. It’s a special time because it’s a time of rebirth and renewal. A time of hope and belief in our future. A time of inspiration and togetherness. A time of joy and celebration.

A second Section 2AA match-up in eight days, Chanhassen, held to 14 total shots, was shutout in a 5-0 loss at Prior Lake Dec. 21.

Coming off the first victory of the season, Chanhassen had an opportunity for a key section win, leading Shakopee by double digits in the first half.

Held to 16 points in the first half, yet leading by four, Holy Family Catholic turned up the heat after the break, pulling away from Annandale 51-29 at home Dec. 21.
