Community Park – Ice Rink

It’s beginning to feel a lot like Spring…well, NOT REALLY. The Public Services Department has been working hard to flood the ice rink to build a strong safe skating base for all the residents to enjoy. Unfortunately, with the unseasonably warmer temperatures, we have been unable to make additional ice, and what ice we were able to make has now melted away.

We are continuing to watch extended forecasts and colder temps are in the forecast (if they are correct), we hope to have ice for skating closer to New Years.

When we have cold enough temps, flooding consists of spraying many layers of water between 1/8” to 1/4” across the entire surface. Temperatures need to be in the mid to lower teens, and the colder it is, the better.

We know how much everyone would love to be out there skating and we will be continuing to try making ice when temperatures allow. In the meantime, get those skates sharpened and sticks taped and we will hopefully be skating soon enough.

Street Sweeping continues in the Carver Bluff Neighborhood – November 15th and 16th

Please have all vehicles off the streets when the sweeper is in your neighborhood.  The sweeper has a difficult time cleaning all the debris from the street when maneuvering around parked vehicles.

Click to review the sweeping route map.

Street sweeping is one of the most cost-effective ways used to remove sediment, metals, petroleum products, trash, and vegetation that accumulates on streets, construction sites and parking lots.  If these toxins are not removed, they will make their way into the storm drains and into our streams and waterways.  Keeping the storm drains clear not only helps to mitigate water pollution, but also reduces the likelihood of flooding during heavy rain. If you have any questions, contact [email protected]  – Thank you!

The Street Sweeper will be coming to the Neighborhood October 30, 2018

Street Sweeping in October

The street sweeper will be coming through your neighborhood in October.

Riverside Park – CLOSED

Random Hydrant Flushing – September 13, 2018

The City will be out randomly flushing hydrants throughout the city today.

During hydrant flushing, it is not unusual for residents to periodically experience discolored water, pressure changes, and/or an increased chlorine odor.  Although safe for human consumption, if you experience discolored water, you may correct the problem by opening all cold water faucets and allow them to run at the same time until the water clears.

WATER and GRASS: What is the real need?

Often, we think grass needs more water than it really does. The rule of thumb is that grass needs 1 inch of water a week. That inch can come from rain or a hose. During summer of 2017 there was only 1 period of time where we didn’t get sufficient rainfall to meet grass needs. This summer we are getting even more rain.
The water used for irrigation is the same water coming out of your tap. It’s treated drinking water.  Irrigation can stress groundwater supplies which is where we get our drinking water from.  See more…

STORMWATER PONDS

Ponds with a Purpose
Often the small ponds seen in cities and developments are thought of as landscaping features to add beauty or increase wildlife habitat. While the ponds do that, their actual purpose is more intentional; they exist to protect lakes and rivers from pollution. See more
